  • Bhutanese Weaving: Meet the Weavers Behind the Kira and Gho

Bhutanese weaving is one of the finest textile arts in Asia. Every kira and gho you see is woven by hand, often by women at home, with patterns that can take months to finish.

On this visit, you learn how the cloth is made and what the patterns mean, and you meet the weavers themselves.

    What You See

First, you visit the textile museum in Thimphu, where royal robes and village cloths show the patterns of each region. Then you meet weavers at their looms and watch them build a pattern thread by thread. Some kira patterns are so detailed that a single dress takes a skilled weaver up to a year.

In Bumthang, you can also see yathra, the thick wool cloth woven from yak and sheep wool. If you wish to buy a piece, your guide helps you understand fair prices and quality.

Like every part of your trip, this experience is private, with your own guide and driver. We plan it around your pace, the weather and local events, and your guide translates and explains the meaning behind everything you see, so you always feel welcome.
