    Ura Yakchoe (28 April – 2 May, 2026)

    Overview

Deep in the rolling valleys of Bumthang Valley, the small highland village of Ura Village awakens each spring for one of Bhutan’s most sacred and unique festivals — Ura Yakchoe. For several days, villagers gather in colorful kira and gho as monks reveal an ancient and revered relic believed to carry powerful blessings. The entire village comes alive with masked dances, prayers, and quiet moments of devotion.

Unlike the larger festivals of Bhutan’s cities, Ura Yakchoe feels deeply intimate. Families travel from surrounding valleys, elders whisper prayers as monks chant in the temple courtyard, and the mountain air carries the scent of incense and pine. For travelers seeking authentic Bhutan travel experiences, this festival offers a rare window into Bhutan’s living spiritual traditions.

This 10-day Bhutan tourism journey blends the sacred atmosphere of the Ura Yakchoe festival with a wider exploration of Bhutan’s cultural landscapes. From the peaceful valleys of Paro Valley and Thimphu to the historic temples of Bumthang, the itinerary reveals the depth of Bhutan’s traditions and natural beauty.

Perfect for solo travelers, families, adventure seekers, and cultural enthusiasts, this Bhutan holiday offers a meaningful mix of festival celebrations, scenic Himalayan drives, and spiritual discovery.
